Holy Union and Commitment Ceremonies

Holy Union and Commitment Ceremonies are "wedding ceremonies" without the legal component. Sometimes, for whatever reason, couples; both straight and gay, long to proclaim their love and commitment to one another, but are unable, or unwilling to include doing so in the eyes of the government. The reasons for this can vary. The alternative is to have a "wedding" ceremony without the couple actually getting legally married. The couple is not pronounced "married" nor is there a pretence made to the guests that the couple is actually getting legally married. Also, no marriage license is attained or registered with the State. Other than that, commitment ceremonies and holy unions are pretty much identical to wedding ceremonies.

I am honored to offer my services as an officiant to couples who wish to publicly, or privately proclaim their dedication to one another without getting legally married. Although these ceremonies, including the same sex unions are not legally recognized in the State of Michigan, a "wedding" celebration is much more than a legal agreement. It is the public and formal declaration of the personal agreements and vows you have made to one another. It is an agreement that says, "This is forever", "I will love and support you always". All couples deserve to be in strong, loving partnerships and to have the opportunity to publicly express and celebrate that union.
